................ is originally from upstate NY. He was in the school band where he played saxophone and was in the drum corps. He now plays guitar, banjo, harmonica, and sings. Jim taught himself to play the guitar after getting some tips from his older brother and father who also play the guitar. When Jim was 21 he left NY to come to Athens and play music, where he successfully performed all over the Southeast and up the East coast, delighting crowds with his high energy charismatic performances. Since Jim has been in the South, he has learned to love bluegrass music, but really loves all music. Jim has a wonderful supportive wife Julie (who puts up with late night practices at their home!), and 3 dogs, Buddy, Sammy, and Lulah.
grew up in a musical family in Pleasant Valley, Georgia. It was only natural that Whit would begin to make music of his own, and he soon picked up the guitar and bass. He started out in gospel and bluegrass music as a teen and spent some time in country and rock bands during college. Whit has a love for many types of music but maintains a deep appreciation for traditional music. Whit has a wonderful wife Ansley and two dogs. Whit is a timber framer and also enjoys gardening and woodworking.
grew up here in the classic city of Athens, Georgia. Jason sings and plays all kinds of percussion instruments from congas and bongos to chimes, shakers and cowbells and also sings many great harmonies with Jim and the rest of the beanstalks. A self taught musician, Jason is influenced by many different types of music. Jason works hard and spends his time with his wife Stacy and two wonderful children, Silas and his newborn daughter Evie.
grew up in South Florida, but has been living in the Classic city for over fifteen years. Ben grew up playing the piano and was actively involved in the bands at school- from the marching band, the jazz band, and the concert band playing the saxophone. In college he started playing guitar and the mandolin. He always wanted to be in a band. Jim helped him learn to play and sing. Ben is also a big fan of bluegrass and gospel music but also loves all different kinds of music from reggae, classical, and rock and roll. Ben and his wife Merryn have been together for 15 years and have two beautiful children, Elizabeth and Ian as well as two dogs Bean and Turkey.
The four of us have been playing together since the beginning of the year. Off and on we have been playing together for over ten years. Jim has always loved performing and Ben and Jim started playing music together and then Jason joined while the sound was developing. We played all types of music and learned many songs. And before we knew it we had ourselves a little band, playing at parties, campfires, cookouts, anywhere we could.
As time went on with our families growing, playing good music for the family oriented audience seemed like the natural thing to do. But they were still missing a piece. That's where we discovered Whit's singing and bass were the perfect fit. He completed the sound of JBS. JBS likes to perform high energy, upbeat songs so everyone who is listening will feel like singing, clapping, and dancing- especially the kids!
